The man charged in the death of Elijah Vue will be bound over for trial on new charges.
Yesterday in a Manitowoc County Court, 39-year-old Jesse Vang had his preliminary hearing.
Two special agents from the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations took the stand to talk about the evidence they found during the investigation into Elijah’s death after his remains were found in the Town of Two Rivers.
Special Agent Eric Voland first spoke about text messages between Vang and Elijah’s Mother, Katrina Baur.
This was when the toddler was sent to Vang’s apartment for “disciplinary purposes.”
Some of the text messages in the criminal complaint contain some graphic information but appear to show that Vang would continue to correct Elijah’s “bad behavior” and would be encouraged by Baur.
A second special Agent, Justen Ragen, discussed some of the pictures, including one where Elijah appears to have been wearing a black blindfold.
He also talked about video surveillance that appears to show Vang dropping off a black suitcase at St. Vincent de Paul’s in Two Rivers that was later found to have Elijah’s DNA inside it.
Judge Anthony Lambrecht found that there was enough to bind Vang over for trial.
Vang will be back in court on November 18th for arraignment. He’s facing charges of physical assault of a child, causing death, hiding a corpse, and obstruction.
Baur is facing charges of chronic child neglect, consequence is death, child neglect, and two counts of obstruction, she’ll be back in court in December.
