A Sheboygan park is set to get a new playground next year.
At Sheboygan’s Common Council meeting earlier this week, one point of discussion included a new playground being built at Optimist Park on the city’s south side.
The resolution came from the Public Works Committee, which recommended the City Council vote to approve funding and building new playground equipment at the park.
The Public Works Committee believed Optimist Park did not provide the same opportunities for play activities as others across the city, and it would now be able to reach its desired standard.
The Optimist Club of Sheboygan has pledged to donate up to 50 percent of the total cost to aid the city in paying for the new equipment.
This donation will be roughly $25,000 as the total project is estimated to cost just over $50,000. Lee Recreation LLC, out of Cambridge, Wisconsin, has won a bid with the city and will now be tasked with building the new playground.
Optimist Park is located at 2004 Carmen Avenue in Sheboygan and will see new playground equipment construction begin in early 2025.
