The St. Nazianz Volunteer Fire Department is reminding everyone about the importance of having working smoke detectors after a dryer fire yesterday (November 11th).
Fire Chief Mike Kaufmann says the fire happened in the 100 block of S. 6th Avenue just before noon.
Firefighters received information about the fire behind the dryer and activated a MABAS Alarm, but they canceled it when they learned that the fire was contained in a small area.
The St. Nazianz Fire Department stayed on the scene for an hour and a half to check on the extension, ventilate the house, and investigate the cause of the fire.
Kaufmann continues saying that everyone got out because of smoke detectors.
The residents also used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out themselves and get pets outside safely before firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire was never listed.
Several emergency departments, including the Kiel, Valders, and Reedsville Fire, the Manitowoc County Fire Investigation Team, Manitowoc County Sheriffs, and the Manitowoc County Dispatch Center assisted the St. Nazianz Fire Department.
