An annual Manitowoc holiday tradition is returning in a couple of weeks.
Evergleams on Eighth tours will start this year the day after Thanksgiving on November 29th, but the aluminum Christmas trees will start being set up next week according to Manitowoc Aluminum Kitch-mas Director Barb Bundy-Yost.
She explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the trees were first created in the 1950s and built by the Aluminum Specialty Company.
The trees were sold until about the 1970s, when the style faded out.
The aluminum came from World War II when the US used shredded pieces to block radio signals.
Like years past, walking tours to see the Evergleams around downtown Manitowoc will cost $12, while the trolley tours will cost $25.
The Manitowoc Public Library will also host classes, including Sparkle!, the history of the aluminum Christmas tree, as well as a visit from Dr. Evergleam, Jordan Kabat.
Both events take place in December.
