Progress continues on demolishing the former Mid Cities and Lakeshore Mall properties.
Mayor Justin Nickels’s announcement explains that about 44% of one of the buildings has been entirely gutted, and the roof has been removed.
Another 22% still need to be gutted and their roofs removed, while the rest of the buildings still need both done.
The walls of the buildings are still up for now to protect dust and particles from getting outside until they are cleaned up.
Nickels says demolition will continue for the rest of the month.
The city officially purchased the former mall site in April for about $5.3 million in closing costs.
The plan is to completely remove and seed the property before Tycore Inc., based in Green Bay, comes and develops it.
Nickels told Seehafernews.com that more than 40 new single-family homes and about 160 new apartments are planned.
There would also be room for several businesses to move in.
Tycore is expected to invest about $49.8 million into the property.
Construction could begin as early as next year.
