The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is urging residents to protect themselves from respiratory viruses.
With the holiday season around the corner, the DHS recommends getting up to date on their flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccines.
Their data shoes that currently only 17 percent of Wisconsinites have received this year’s flu shot and only 7 percent have received an updated COVID-19 vaccine.
Flu, COVID-19, and RSV cases are currently on the rise, which is normal for this time of year.
Doctor Stephanie Schauer, DHS Immunization Program Manager, says, “Any time is a good time to get vaccinated, but if you haven’t yet, at least two weeks ahead of holiday gatherings is really the best time to get vaccinated.”
Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are recommended for anyone six months or older.
However, individuals above the age of 65 or those with a compromised immune system are recommended to receive a second dose of their COVID-19 vaccine six months after their first shot.
To find and schedule a vaccine, Wisconsin residents are encouraged to check with their primary care provider, local or Tribal health department, community clinic, or visit vaccines.gov.
