The Shawano Police Department has given out Life-Saving Commendation Awards to individuals whose actions kept a man alive.
13 individuals were honored for their role in saving the life of Mathew Meidam in September.
On September 13th, Meidam suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, and his coworker Steve Baird immediately called 911.
Officer Jeff Buettner responded first and initiated CPR. Seargent Michelle Kamba arrived next equipped with a defibrillator to help stabilize Meidam’s condition.
DPW employee Cody Hudson assisted the two in prepping Meidam for the application of the defibrillator.
Critical Care Paramedics Jed Meidam, Josh Zandi, Brock Epping, and Joe Gazeley, along with Advance EMT Michelle Brittnacher and Paramedic Jordan Herbert, did their part in getting Meidam to the hospital and while he was transferred to a different care facility.
Officer Jacob Giannoni, Community Service Officer Tom Cotter, and Department of Public Works employee Dohn Dallmann aided in securing the scene to protect the first responders as they focused on saving the man’s life.
All individuals mentioned received the award for what Shawano Police have called “selfless actions, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to preserving life.”
