Hunters are getting prepared as gun deer season is just a week away.
The nine-day gun season begins in Wisconsin at sunrise on November 23rd and will end at sunset on December 1st.
This year’s gun deer season is later than usual, and the DNR says it may affect the number of deer on the move relative to recent years.
However, last year’s mild winter will likely have produced increased fawn production and improved antler development for bucks, a reason for optimism for Wisconsin hunters.
As of the end of October, more than 123,000 individuals had purchased gun hunting licenses in preparation for the deer season.
The DNR also reminds hunters to register their harvests.
All harvested deer must be registered electronically by 5:00 p.m. the day after the deer is recovered.
As is the case with every hunting season, hunters are urged to hunt safely, including firearm safety, being sure about their target, and wearing at least 50 percent blaze orange clothing.
