Manitowoc County’s executive is explaining where some of the new sales tax money is going.
Bob Ziegelbauer explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest Program that due to the Human Services Department deficit and inflation, a lot of the money is going to be going toward that.
He told SeehaferNews.com before that the department’s budget went up from $20 million to $32 million between 2019 and 2023.
The budget was in the positive, but the last two years have been in a deficit.
About two-thirds of the sales tax dollars is going back to the deficit while the rest of it is going to the Manitowoc County Sheriffs and debt relief.
Ziegelbauer continues by saying the county doesn’t have much control over how the Human Services Department budget grows because a lot of aid comes from the state.
The county board voted on implementing the sales tax back in July.
Ziegelbauer said that he is frustrated with having it.
Recently, Board Chairman Tyler Martell also expressed his frustration with voting for it.
