Kaukauna Utilities has been honored by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The DNR has announced the winners of the 2024 Wisconsin Recycling Excellence Awards, with Kaukauna Utilities being one of 13 organizations recognized.
Kaukauna’s Utility Unit was one of six entities awarded in the Overall Program Quality category.
In 2023, they developed a waste management plan ensuring all materials were properly disposed of.
This includes regular recyclables, batteries, light bulbs, and anything else Kaukauna residents were throwing out.
They have also found reuse or recycling outlets for other unique materials such as concrete, underground electrical conduit reels, and used transformers.
They were also awarded the honor for their work with the city to host an annual electronics recycling event.
Since the event’s inception in 2015, Kaukauna Utilities has collected more than 200 tons of electronics, equaling nearly half a million pounds.
