The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association has named Kiel senior lineman Brady Bortz as a small school’s first-team all-state performer on both sides of the ball.
The 6’5”, 270-pound Bortz played offensive tackle and defensive end for head coach David Esswein. He led The Raiders in sacks with nine-and-a-half and tackles for loss with 21.
He dominated his opponents every week, leading Kiel to an undefeated regular season and the WIAA Division Five Sectional Finals.
Senior Bryce Gullixson was named Small School- all-state first team as a running back. He rewrote the Raiders rushing annals, running for a single-season school-record 1,848 yards and 35 touchdowns.
Gullixson averaged better than 10 years per carry and scored 11 of his 35 touchdowns in three postseason games.
Senior Kicker Emmet Langenfeld was named small school all-state honorable mention. He converted 39 of 41 extra points and averaged 39-and-a-half yards per punt.
Joining this Kiel trio on the WFCA Small School all-state team at linebacker are Two Rivers Junior Max Matthias and Wrightstown Senior Aiden Humphreys.
Matthias led The Raiders in solo tackles (61), assisted tackles (59), and total tackles (120). Humphreys also leads the Tigers in solo tackles (51) assisted tackles (55) and total tackles (106).
Aiden and The Tigers are playing in their second consecutive Division Five state championship game at Barry Alvarez Field at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on Thursday at 4 p.m. against Stratford.
