Madison police are investigating a violent robbery and carjacking that occurred last week.
Authorities say the incident began Friday afternoon at a gas station in the 700 block of East Washington Avenue, where a man jumped over the counter, assaulted an employee, and stole money.
The suspect attempted to enter a passing vehicle but failed.
He then fled into a nearby parking garage, where he shoved a woman to the ground while attempting to steal her car.
A security guard tried to stop him, but the suspect managed to escape and remains at large.
