The DATCP has reached a settlement with Roundy’s following product weight and labeling violations.
As part of the settlement, Roundy’s must pay $1,003,590.50 in civil forfeitures, surcharges, and fees.
In December of last year and January of this year, the DATCP’s municipal weights and measures program conducted inspections of 81 of Roundy’s 105 stores in the state of Wisconsin.
During these inspections, it was revealed that 1,202 of the products inspected had listed weights that were considered “unreasonably inaccurate.”
This means that shoppers received less than what they paid for, with products, on average, being overpriced by $1.44.
The most significant discrepancy had one product overpriced by more than $7.00.
DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski said following the settlement, “Consumers have a right to receive the true value of the products they pay for.”
Products surveyed included precooked meals, fruits and vegetables, salad kits, and more.
Additionally, 587 products were found to have label errors that mislead consumers, including selling products by count rather than weight as they were listed.
90 of these such errors resulted in civil forfeitures as well.
The 81 stores around the state that were surveyed included locations in Green Bay, Appleton, and Oshkosh.
