The Sheboygan Area School District (SASD) is doing its part in November, which is National Homeless Youth Awareness Month.
Homeless Youth Awareness Month aims to educate the public about the prevalence of homeless children and youth and the challenges they face.
SASD has also released data from recent years, highlighting just how many Sheboygan children are experiencing homelessness.
Last school year, the SASD served more than 350 students who suffered from homelessness or housing instability.
This is over 100 more students than just two years ago.
Additionally, 6.1 percent of those unhoused students are in shelters, 9.2 percent are in hotels, and 5.2 percent are entirely unsheltered.
However, the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act equips SASD with the resources they need to ensure that any student suffering from homelessness has the same opportunity to be successful in school as their housed peers.
