Marian University has announced they will be offering a new sport in the coming years.
Women’s Flag Football has been selected as the university’s 26th sponsored sport.
The first season will begin in the spring of 2026.
Marian broke the news at a press conference on Wednesday (November 20th), becoming the first four-year institution to offer women’s flag football in Wisconsin.
Flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S., especially with girls ages 6 to 17.
Additionally, in 2023, the International Olympic Committee announced that flag football would make its debut at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, only heightening the growth of the sport.
According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, approximately 500,000 of those girls ages 6 to 17 participated in flag football in 2023, a 63 percent increase since 2019.
On the newest addition to the school’s athletics program, Marian University President Aaron Sadoff said, “The addition of flag football to an already powerful Marian Athletics lineup provides a unique opportunity to attract more students. We think it will create a lot of excitement and a whole new fan base in our community.”
