It was a rough season opener for the Manitowoc United Hockey team, as they fell to the powerhouse Notre Dame program 16-1 Saturday night (November 23rd).
The Manitowoc County squad held with the Tritons through the first period, trailing 3-0, but Notre Dame unloaded in the final two frames.
The lone United goal of the night came off the stick of Myles Dekok when he was fed in the slot by a perfect pass from Captain Benson Dickrell.
That goal was fitting, as the United squad was raising money for Dekok’s brother, Silas Keeling, as he is battling cancer.
The total amount raised was not yet tabulated, but the 50/50 raffle raised over $500, as the winner donated his half back to the family.
Senior Goalie Dan Karlin had 36 saves through the first two periods, and freshman Jackson Kadow had an additional 10 in the third.
United will return to their home ice on Friday (November 29th) as they host Neenah.
Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
