A local shelter providing help to the homeless will be allowed to hold more people.
The Manitowoc Common Council unanimously approved an updated Conditional Use Permit for Hope House.
According to documents, Hope House will now be able to hold up to 35 people, compared to the original 26 they were allowed to house.
Hope House Executive Director Jan Graunke explained in a letter to the city that the increase would allow them to help serve single women on a more consistent programming basis than they currently do because of the number of families.
The new number would also allow for more families.
Their plan also includes converting some rooms in their shelter to help accommodate more people.
Mayor Justin Nickels told Seehafer News that the city is very fortunate to have Hope House and that the change allows them to help more people in the community who need it.
