Kate Schuette died on November 20, 2024, at age 80. She was born on August 5, 1944 in Manitowoc to Ward and Margaret (Fishbeck) Schuette. Kate graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School and then attended University of WI – Madison. Before graduating, she joined the US Navy and served for three years as an Aviation Maintenance Administrator. After completing her duty, she returned to finish her education at the University of WI – Green Bay, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy.
Kate married Knud Erik Bundesen Andersen, a farmer from the country of Denmark.
Beginning her career at her father’s company, Schuette Construction Company, Kate went on to work as Editor of Manitowoc Maritime Museum Magazine. She and her husband Knud later established Hollyberry Dairy Farm. After his passing, Kate sold the farm and held office positions at Harvey Ready Mix and Kieffer Co. in Sheboygan until retirement.
Outside of work, Kate fought for environmental issues and protested the building of Interstate 43 in the early 1970s. She also worked to stop the building of Haven Nuclear Power Plant, where Whistling Straits Golf Course now sits. Kate also served as Secretary for the Democratic Party of Manitowoc County and lobbied for NIMBY – a landfill regulation.
Kate will always be remembered as an artistic, creative, smart, and spirited person with a sharp sense of humor. She loved to have fun and was known for being an excellent player of Old Maid and Monopoly.
Kate is survived by her sisters Penelope Miedaner of Manitowoc and Diantha (Roger) Haagenson of Annapolis, MD; nieces and nephew Keralee Miedaner, Talane Fox, Sarelyn Saint, Ann Haagenson, and Eric Haagenson; very special friends Julia Angst and Kris Hanson; cousins; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Cremation has occurred at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Manitowoc. Private services were held. Expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com .
