With the start of the gun deer season last weekend, the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office reminds hunters to stay safe again this year.
Deputies remind hunters to treat every firearm as if it were loaded and to always point the muzzle in a safe direction.
Before hunting, it’s also important to know the land and property lines if a hunter gets permission to go on someone’s property.
There are also some rules around roads, including that a hunter isn’t allowed to shoot a firearm from a vehicle or across a highway within 50 feet.
If you’re on a person’s property, a gun can’t be fired within 100 feet of a building without permission.
The Gun Deer hunting season continues through December 1st.
The Antlerless deer hunt begins on December 12th, while the archery and crossbow hunt ends on January 31st.
