Tomorrow’s (November 28th) Manitowoc County Hunger Coalition Thanksgiving community meal will be another full gathering.
Organizations like the Salvation Army, First Presbyterian Church, and the United Way Manitowoc County have served the meal to those dealing with food insecurity for the last four years.
Executive Director Ashley Bender reminds everyone that if you want to attend, you must register by calling United Way at 920-682-8888.
Attendees will have two options to get their meals.
“You can do the drive-thru and that is from 10:30 am to 11:15 am,” she explained. “The second way, though, to participate is the dine-in, and that is from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm.”
Bender also says serving 250 people has been about the right amount for the hunger coalition each year.
While other programs can help those with insecurities, the annual meal shows a need in the community.
Bender explained, “It can be expensive to live right now, in general. But the holidays put a little more pressure on our wallets with gift buying and maybe the cost of food as well as heat bills may be going up. So, events like this help stretch those food dollars out for folks.”
Like any Thanksgiving, the meal consists of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, pie, and much more.
About 80 volunteers will help this year at the meal.
Like in years past, the Thanksgiving Community meal is being hosted at Hope Community Church on County Road B on Manitowoc’s north side.
