A man was saved, but a cat perished Thanksgiving night during a house fire in Chilton.
Chilton Firefighters were called to a home in the 1200 block of Fox Street just before 6:00 pm yesterday with the man trapped inside.
A Mutal Aid Box Alarm System was activated to bring other fire personnel.
Once on scene, firefighters found flames coming from the right side of the house and the male at the second-floor window with smoke and heat forcing him to the roof.
He was later rescued when firefighters used a ladder to get him down.
While Chilton and other fire crews aggressively attacked the fire and prevented it from getting to the second floor, winds made it challenging and pushed smoke throughout the first floor.
Firefighters put the fire out within 30 minutes, but according to Fire Chief Ben Schoenborn (SHOWN-born), the home was gutted, with the family having nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Some other pets had smoke inhalation, but a cat died as a result.
It’s unknown how much damage the fire caused financially, but the cause appears to be accidental.
