Governor Tony Evers and the WEDC are encouraging shoppers to support small businesses this holiday season.
The entire month of December has been declared “Shop Small Season.”
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) calls small businesses the lifeblood of our communities and helps make them more vibrant and our state more prosperous.
Missy Hughes, the WEDC Secretary, said in a news release, “Small businesses are the heart of our communities and downtowns. They bring people in to shop, gather, and celebrate.”
Studies have shown that for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 typically stays in the community, while only $43 remains when spent at a national chain store.
Several “Shop Small” events are planned for throughout the state this month, including one in Appleton.
The exact date, time, and location of that event have not yet been announced.
