The nine-day gun deer hunting season has ended, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has released preliminary numbers.
Across the state, the DNR reported that total harvests in 2024 are up 5.2 percent compared to last year.
Statewide, 189,622 deer were harvested during the gun season.
Locally, 2,417 deer were harvested in Manitowoc County, over 100 more than last season. Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, Door, Brown, Outagamie, and Calumet Counties also saw increased harvests this year compared to 2023.
All counties named are part of the Central Farmland Zone, which was led this year by Marathon County, where hunters harvested an impressive 6,895 deer over the nine-day gun season, while Adams County led the state with 12.4 deer registered per square mile.
