Manitowoc’s mayor is giving more details about a project on Fleetwood Drive.
Justin Nickels explained on Facebook that while the city is looking at possibly getting rid of some of the concrete islands, he wants to tell residents that there is more to the project.
He says eliminating concrete islands is being considered for cost savings so the city can get other roads done throughout the city.
Nickels also wants to be completely transparent with the neighborhood before making a final decision and invited them to the most recent Public Infrastructure Committee meeting to discuss the pros and cons.
Nickels also says Fleetwood Drive is part of the city’s six-year $34 million road improvement plan.
The mayor also posted some benefits of removing the island, including unhindered access to everyone’s driveway and saving the city between $100,000 to $120,000 in costs.
Some negatives could include more lawns for residents to cut in the area, and driveway approaches would increase by about six to twelve feet.
