Manitowoc County’s Sheriff wants to work to get his deputies’ body cameras.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program yesterday (December 9th) that his office will put in a request for proposal for the 2026 County Budget to get the 53 body cameras for his deputies.
There would be other upgrades as well.
“Upgrading all the tasers for our sworn law enforcement officers,” Hartwig stated. “Upgrading the squad cameras for all our squad cars. Our four interview rooms over at the sheriff’s office and then a thing called channeling services.”
Channeling services would take all video filmed by the sheriff’s office and upload it to something like a cloud where it would be stored.
Hartwig says he hopes the Board of Supervisors would support the proposal because.
Hartwig explained, “Obviously, all those things come with a significant amount of cost.”
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is one of few departments in the state that’s yet to get body cameras for deputies.
Hartwig put the proposal in the county’s 2025 budget but didn’t make it through.
