The trial for the murder of Lily Peters could be delayed until 2026, according to a Chippewa County judge.
Carson Peters-Berger, the 16-year-old charged with the crime, appeared in court yesterday and pleaded not guilty.
The judge indicated that the case would proceed in adult court but foresees multiple hurdles along the way.
Investigators allege that Peters-Berger brutally attacked and killed Lily Peters in 2022 after she was walking home.
A prolonged legal dispute over whether Peters-Berger should be tried as a juvenile has caused delays, and the judge now expects further complications regarding the trial’s location.
