A project two years in the making has come to fruition.
Manitowoc Public Utilities has announced that its Community Solar Garden is now live, providing 1,500 kilowatts of energy.
After several months of work by MPU crews and a developer, the panels began producing energy Tuesday morning.
The Solar Garden is located on Hecker Road, just South of Viebahn Street.
In a public statement, MPU called the program a “first-of-its-kind program in the State of Wisconsin, which allows any good-standing MPU electric customer, owner or renter, the opportunity to experience the benefits of solar generation with no upfront cost.”
Residents who wish to sign up to participate can still do so at MPU.org.
