A Two Rivers middle school project that has been underway for more than a year is now being used by the district.
Administrative staff, along with members of CG Schmidt and Bray Architects, held a ribbon cutting for a new gym and remodel for L.B. Clark Middle School yesterday.
The public got to see the work that went into the remodel after they voted yes on a $38.7 million referendum back in 2022.
L.B. Clark Principal Tim Wester first thanked everyone on the school staff who made the addition possible, along with the builders.
But then he thanked the community.
Wester told a crowd, “You are here tonight for supporting the project and supporting the schools. We really appreciate you and appreciate the schools.”
District Administrator Diane Johnson told Seehafernews.com that the project turned out beautiful, but at the same time, it was well thought out.
“It’s not over the top,” she explained. “It represents our community. It represents everything that we’ve wanted for our kids for many years. We’re excited to have this opportunity to have people here.”
Johnson says the district realized in 2021 that L.B. Clark needed some attention after talking with architects and engineers.
Along with a new attached gym, a new fifth-grade wing with new classrooms and a science lab was added to the middle school.
The project also includes other remodeled areas dedicated to the history of Two Rivers and Lake Michigan.
Johnson says students got out early last year so they could start reconstructing before they started school on September 2nd.
With everything now finished, Eighth Grade Teacher Matt Slattery said everything that went into it turned out incredible.
“We’ve got a lot more space for the kids to move out and to learn. And we have dedicated academic areas as well. It’s really exciting. The kids are excited to be here as well. They’re taking care of the place, and I’m excited about it.”
If you couldn’t make it last night (December 10th), the district will hold another round of tours on January 24th at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
