Manitowoc’s mayor is reminding residents that property tax bills will be delivered soon.
Mayor Justin Nickels explained that while the city is sending the tax bills, they don’t just encompass city taxes but also those from Manitowoc Public Schools, Manitowoc County, and Lakeshore College.
Nickels continues by saying that the only portion he and the city council have is in the city and not the other taxing entities.
One question the mayor has gotten is about the new .5% sales tax at the Manitowoc County Board of Supervisors passed.
Nickels says the city will not see any revenue and will not show up on your tax bill but will show up on things you might purchase in 2025.
The mayor also addressed that the city will be collecting less in the 2025 city tax levy than in 2024, meaning the city isn’t asking the taxpayers for more to fund day-to-day city services like Police, Fire, DPW, Parks, and more.
