For some, a Christmas wish list is full of electronics, kitchen gadgets, or toys, but for a local non-profit, the big item on their list is a bit more personal.
Karey Roberts and Ashley Brown started Gracious Givers of Manitowoc during COVID as a simple Facebook group, but so many people joined they were able to expand the group into a 501c3 non-profit.
They tell SeehaferNews.com that the holiday season is their busiest as they try to help local families in need.
This year, however, they are trying to help in a different way.
“One of our Christmas families we adopted this year is Jordan Beatty,” Roberts explained. “She has actually went through a lot of medical conditions with her kidney. She just got approved to be on the transplant list, so we are trying to push that. A Kidney for Christmas.”
While the Beatty is getting a lot of attention, Gracious Givers has adopted five families in total this holiday season.
“In the group itself, there are so many members of the group that have adopted families themselves,” Roberts noted. “If you come to our house right now it looks like a Christmas shop…and yet we still are in need of gifts for these families.”
Brown elaborated, saying they are “large families struggling through medical issues.”
Those interested in helping Jordan Beatty are encouraged to get themselves tested to see if they are a match. You can do that by calling 414-805-0310 to set up an appointment.
You can contact Karey and Ashley either on the Gracious Givers Facebook page or by emailing GraciousGiversManitowoc@gmail.com.
