Another reason to remind residents that no ice is safe ice on bodies of water.
Multiple agencies, including Valders Area Fire and Rescue, were called Saturday morning (December 14th) around 9:00 am for a man who fell through the ice on Horseshoe Lake.
Nearby neighbors and a retired firefighter assisted the man out of the water and to a boat launch and placed the man in a vehicle to warm up.
The man wasn’t taken to the hospital and didn’t want medical attention.
Valders Fire and Rescue reiterated that ice conditions are very unstable, and with warming temperatures and rain, any ice left will worsen.
They also say if you do go on the ice later this winter, tell someone beforehand and bring some personal flotation device.
