An Appleton man has been sentenced after stabbing a woman last year.
58-year-old Rickey Ray Denson was inside an Outagamie County courtroom on Monday (December 16th) for his sentencing hearing after a jury found him guilty of five felonies and one misdemeanor charge stemming from the August 2023 stabbing.
At his trial earlier this year, Denson was found guilty of felony counts of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide, False Imprisonment, Strangulation and Suffocation, and Intimidating a Victim with the Use of Force along with one felony and misdemeanor count of bail jumping.
Denson has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, followed by 10 years of extended supervision.
After a day of drinking in Jones Park in Appleton, Denson followed a woman who he saw leaving the park.
A few blocks away, Denson strangled the woman before stabbing her in the neck with a broken smoking pipe.
When officers located him, he was covered in the woman’s blood and had a BAC of .153.
