The City of Sheboygan has officially agreed to purchase the former Memorial Hospital Property.
During the Sheboygan Common Council meeting held Monday night (December 16th), a resolution authorizing the purchase passed in a unanimous vote.
The sum of $150,000 will be paid to Aurora Health Care Central Inc. for the vacant land located at 1619 North 7th Street.
The former Memorial Hospital was torn down last year, and the new facility began operations on Union Avenue in 2022.
Also at Monday’s meeting, Mayor Ryan Sorenson said the city has been working diligently for the opportunity to build single-family homes in the neighborhood on the former hospital site.
Alder John Belanger, who represents this portion of Sheboygan, expressed thanks to City Administrator Casey Bradley for making this happen while also stating his excitement for what the future holds in the next phase of the housing development.
No timeline was given in regard to when construction would begin.
The deal will officially close at a later date.
