The fate of Act 10 is on hold for now.
A Dane County judge placed a temporary pause on his previous decision, declaring the controversial law unconstitutional.
Judge Jacob Frost, who ruled against most aspects of Act 10 earlier this month, said the hold would give lawmakers and other stakeholders time to challenge his ruling.
His decision stated that Act 10 violates constitutional principles by treating public employees differently, specifically by restricting collective bargaining for specific groups.
Republican lawmakers are appealing the decision, referencing previous court rulings that dismissed similar arguments.
As a result, unions, including the Madison Teachers’ Union, are temporarily unable to push forward with new contract negotiations.
