The City of Sheboygan has provided another update on its network security investigation.
After working with cyber security experts and the City’s IT staff, significant upgrade needs were identified for the network.
In response, at this week’s Sheboygan Common Council meeting, funding was officially approved to help the IT staff purchase those network upgrades.
Just over $400,000 was allocated by the council to upgrade the City’s network security.
This funding came about after it was learned on October 31st that a ransomware group known as Chort had breached the City’s network and stole data from the server.
Currently, City staff continues to monitor the situation closely as an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
