Madison Police have confirmed that the firearms involved in Monday’s shooting at Abundant Life School were legally purchased, although the details of how the shooter obtained them remain unclear.
Chief Shon Barnes informed a Milwaukee news station that the department had traced the two handguns carried by Natalie Rupnow to their legal sources.
However, he withheld further details of the trace, citing concerns over potentially compromising the investigation.
Since Rupnow was underage, she could not have legally bought the guns herself.
Investigators are still working to determine how she acquired them and what motivated her to open fire at the school.
