Violet M. Rue peacefully entered Heaven and God’s loving arms on December 16, 2024, at age 97. Violet was born to Myrtle and Roy Nelson on August 7, 1927, in Manitowoc County. After graduation from Lincoln High School, she worked at the Pentagon as Assistant Administrator to the Chaplain. Upon her return she married Robert C. Rue on April 19, 1947, at Gjerpen Lutheran Church. They raised their family together in Manitowoc and later established her career doing administrative work for Family Service and Manitowoc Counseling Center. Violet was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and was a longtime, active member of Sons of Norway. She enjoyed working on various Hardanger embroidery projects. She loved baking Norwegian rosettes, pastries, and lefse. She was dedicated to the quilting mission at First Lutheran Church for many years. Violet was a loving, warm, caring, and giving person who had many lifelong friendships. Most of all, she valued her family, which meant the world to her.
Violet was the loving mother of Charles (Barbara) Rue of Bonney Lake, WA, the late infant David Rue, the late Nancy Krueger of Manitowoc, Karen (Randy) Nelson of Manitowoc, and Kirsten (David) Marley of Oconomowoc, WI; proud grandmother of Jennifer (Lewis) Andrews, Nicole (Mike) Bluesiewicz , Joel Rue, Dewane (Yvette) Krueger, Allan (Jody) Krueger, Shane (Erin) Nelson, Seth (Julie) Nelson, Steffini (Brett) Kabelowsky, Matthew Marley, and Michael Marley; adoring great-grandmother (“NiNi”) of Kyle, Allyssa, DeDe, Gabby, Nancy, Kelvin, Megan, Ryan, Molly, Kate, Landon, Addison, Mason, and Micah. She is also loved by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert, her parents Roy and Myrtle, and brother Elroy Nelson.
Visitation will be held at First Lutheran Church, 521 N. 8th St. in Manitowoc, on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Andy Wendle. Burial at Gjerpen Cemetery will follow the service. A luncheon will be held at Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 N. Water St., Manitowoc following the burial. Memorial donations are appreciated to First Lutheran Church.
