Charles E. Newberg, age 90, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life with family by his side on Friday, December 27, 2024 at River’s Bend Health and Rehabilitation.
Chuck was born on August 20, 1934 in Two Rivers to the late Carl and Gerturde (Kamm) Newberg. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1953. Chuck served for 12 years in the 377 Ordinance Army Reserve and for two years in the Naval Reserve. On May 20, 1957, Chuck married Ann Waarum at First German Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on January 1, 1989. On August 19, 1994, Chuck married Diane Konop at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. He had worked for Kornely Dairy, Cher-Make Sausage Company for 27 years, and retired from Eye Clinic of Manitowoc where he had worked part-time for 15 years. Chuck enjoyed spending time with Diane at their place in Door County. He was an avid bowler and Green Bay Packer fan. Above all, Chuck enjoyed spending his time with his family and friends – especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include Chuck’s wife of 30 years, Diane; two sons, Scott (Lori) Newberg and Steve (Wendy) Newberg, all of Manitowoc; six grandchildren, Shannon, Kyle, Logan (Emmy), Brock (Taylor), Bryce (Kristen), and Brett (Natalie); three great grandchildren, Reese, Ariella, and Aiden; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Donna (Dean) Bennett, Debra (Daniel) Smith, and Matt D. (Karen) Konop; also other relatives and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Gertrude Newberg; wife, Ann; and sister, Mary (Carl) Manns.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1712 Menasha Avenue, Manitowoc with Rev. Jonathan Huehn officiating. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial of Chuck’s cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 731 at church immediately following the funeral service. The family will greet relatives and friends at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com.
