Two Rivers’ City Manager is looking back on 2024.
Greg Buckley explained to Seehafernews.com that 2024 had its ups and downs, but one thing that he’s proud to see is the city’s investment in infrastructure.
“Taking care of some very basic and important needs with an aggressive approach to replacing lead laterals, major street reconstruction on Roosevelt Street,” he explained. “Continued investment in our parks. Along with that, enhancing quality of life in the community.”
The future holds more investments in Neshotah Park, which Buckley called the “crown jewel” of the park system.
With the year ahead, Buckley says he’s excited to see what more will be done with new businesses coming to town.
“We know that we’ll be seeing a new woodfire pizza place opening on 22nd Street,” he stated. “We’ve got a decrepit building downtown that was the Two Rivers Elks Club being restored as Violet Inn with a very nice investment in the downtown. We’re seeing the availability of new home sites at the Sandy Bay Subdivision, where we’ve seen some great single-family construction activity.”
Buckley says the investments will be coming from both private investors, but some will come with some help from the city.
But with all the investment came tragedy from both the deaths of Elijah Vue and Jacob Baer.
He says Vue’s death was one of the most tragic things to happen in the city’s history.
Still, he was proud of the response from the community, meaning the city and the general public, from the initial searches when Elijah was first reported missing.
Buckley says he was also proud of law enforcement’s response in the cases.
Buckley said, “The leadership by our Two Rivers Police Department, but the involvement of county sheriff’s office, numerous area police departments, DCI, and the FBI should at least, in these very tragic circumstance, make people feel very good about the law enforcement resources and other resources that are brought to bear when a child goes missing.”
On a personal note, Buckley says he is excited about his upcoming retirement.
He says he’s excited to hand over the city manager position to someone working with an excellent staff.
Recruitment efforts are underway to select the next person to help run Two Rivers.
Buckley’s last day will be at the beginning of August 2025.
