A Manitowoc man is facing charges after he allegedly stole nearly $7,000 from his elderly father.
Officers were dispatched to Manitowoc Health and Rehab the day after Christmas, where they spoke with the victim and his daughter.
She told police that they recently moved her father into the facility, and her brother had gone into the man’s apartment to clean up.
While there, he messaged his sister, asking what he should do with their father’s wallet.
The sister told him to leave it there and that she would get it for their father, but when she went to pick it up, the wallet was nowhere to be found.
A bank statement was obtained by police a few days later, which revealed that over $6,800 had been spent out of the father’s account at places like Kwik Trip, Walmart, and Piggly Wiggly or withdrawn from ATMs.
When confronted about the spending spree, the 48-year-old man told police that his father had given him permission to spend the money, but the officers said he did not.
The man was arrested on charges of Felony Theft and Felony Bail Jumping.
