Anyone with a Christmas tree can drop it off at the Manitowoc County Basswood Compost Site.
Operations Manager Jon Reisenbuechler says the site is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm and 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturdays.
Like other Christmas tree collections, all ornaments, tinsel, lights, stands, and storage bags need to be off the tree before dropping off.
Reisenbuechler also says the used natural trees can be chipped and turned into mulch, constructed for wildlife habitat, and provide shelter for songbirds during the winter if replanted correctly.
The Manitowoc County Recycling Center also assists the City of Manitowoc Forestry Division with its ‘Tree for a Tree’ Program.
Throughout January, City of Manitowoc residents will be able to receive a voucher for a free deciduous tree when they bring a natural Christmas tree.
Vouchers are limited and are on a first-come, first-served basis.
