A late comeback by the Ships girl’s team just wasn’t enough, as the Green Bay Preble Hornets won 52-45 at the JFK Fieldhouse.
Lincoln led at the beginning, putting up a 10-6 lead. But after that, Preble took over and scored 11 unanswered.
It was their inside passing game that helped them win. Ships Head Coach Riley Garbe says they didn’t play to their full potential.
“Our team knows we can play better,” he explained. “And, at times tonight, we didn’t have everybody going as hard as what I think they could go.”
Jada Raeger led the Hornets with 16 points during the game, followed by Gracie Day with 13.
Preble was up 36-17 at one point.
But a couple of Taylor Peterson and Kendall Schmitz baskets helped the ships get back into within six, but it wasn’t enough.
Garbe also talked about the importance of Kendall Schmitz, who led the Ships with 16 points in the game.
“She came out in the second half and started knocking some shots down, which was great,” he stated. “During that run there, she was drawing fouls and knocking down her free throws, which was great to see. But again, we need all of them to get their best the entire game and work together as a team, and that is when we will find success.”
Taylor Peterson also contributed with 13 points.
Sarah Bolchen finished with 9.
The Shipbuilders Girls team has a quick turnaround as they will face Kettle Moraine Lutheran tomorrow on the road. They fall to 6-3 on the season and 2-3 in the FRCC.
