As temperatures continue to drop, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is offering winter energy-saving tips.
Cutting down on energy use will not only keep winter bills in check but benefit the environment as well.
They recommend lowering your thermostat by even a degree or two because, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, for each degree a thermostat is lowered, a heating bill will drop by one to three percent.
LED lights are also recommended by the DNR because they use up to 93 percent less energy and last ten times longer than standard incandescent lights. Additionally, reduce the use of gas fireplaces and space heaters.
These heat sources are less efficient and more expensive than furnaces to heat a home.
The DNR has said that creating a more energy-efficient home will save you money, conserve resources, and reduce emissions.
