Housing has been deemed a major need in the City of Plymouth.
In 2023, the city formed its Ad-Hoc Housing Committee to guide housing development in the Plymouth community for the following 10 years.
Over the next year, the committee identified areas available for housing developments, created a strategic plan for housing seniors and manufacturing workers, and identified funding sources to support housing growth.
In 2024, Plymouth used the committee’s research to conduct its 2024 Housing Study.
The study showed that there was a serious lack of housing options available, with a current demand for 399 housing units in the city.
The study also revealed a need for diverse housing options across all price points, meaning affordable, market-rate, and higher-end housing are equally necessary for Plymouth to properly accommodate all residents.
Looking ahead, the housing study projected the need for an additional 681 to 981 units from 2025 to 2029.
The housing shortage in Plymouth mirrors that of Sheboygan and many other communities across the entire United States.
