The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) has partnered with the City of Appleton to improve its former downtown mall.
The WEDC has announced they have awarded the city a $250,000 Community Development Investment grant to create the Fox Den inside the Fox Commons Building.
The Fox Den is a $15 million project that will feature ten food stalls and micro-retail spaces along the building’s central atrium.
This new project will join newly added apartments to Fox Commons for Lawrence University students and Mosaic Family Health, which will anchor their services in the building to serve over 6,000 patients in the Appleton area.
The idea behind the Fox Den is to transform Downtown Appleton into a pedestrian-friendly hub for residents, students, and visitors alike.
To that point, Secretary and CEO of WEDC, Missy Hughes, said, “By encouraging pedestrian activity and supporting local small businesses, this development sets an example for how other communities across Wisconsin can turn spaces into places where people want to spend time together.”
