The Lakeshore Housing Coalition will be having their Point-in-Time count (PIT) and community outreach event both this month.
Both events are to help the community gain an understanding of homelessness in Manitowoc County and provide resources to support those in need.
The Manitowoc County Point-in-Time count will begin on January 22nd and go into January 23rd.
The PIT biannual count provides Manitowoc County with an estimated number of individuals experiencing homelessness in the area.
Volunteers can sign up for one of the two scheduled shifts to help search.
The first shift begins on January 22nd at 11:00 p.m. and ends at 1:00 a.m.; the second shift starts on January 23rd at 4:00 a.m. and ends at 6:00 a.m.
The volunteers and local service providers will go along the lakeshore in search of any individuals experiencing homelessness and conduct interviews with them.
The information they gather will be used to help inform local strategies and direct funding to critical programs and services.
If interested in volunteering for the PIT count, please sign up using their provided google form or call Lakeshore CAP at 920-803-6991.
Shortly after the PIT count, there will be a community outreach event on January 28th.
This event provides necessities such as food, hygiene kits, healthcare screenings, shelter access, and information about available resources.
Volunteers and community partners will work together to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere for those experiencing homelessness.
There will also be service providers offering case management and helping individuals with housing opportunities, health services, and employment assistance.
Anyone is welcome to donate or contribute supplies for the outreach event.
