It’s all smiles at Manitowoc Lutheran High School, as their basketball teams are doing very well, and they have a new gymnasium to call their home.
The fundraising for the multi-million dollar project began pre-COVID, with construction finally getting underway in September of 2023.
Both the Lancer boys and girls teams were finally able to play on the new court this past weekend in a couple of all-time great games.
The boys were able to sneak out an 85-83 win over Shiocton, while the 3rd ranked Division 3 girls team in the state battled another state-ranked team, Sheboygan Falls.
That game went into overtime and ended with a Lancer victory, 74-70.
Paul Durkee, the Director of Marketing & Social Media at Manitowoc Lutheran, called the vibe in the gym that night electric.
“You could feel the energy…It was palpable,” he told SeehaferNews.com. “People were just radiating it. And everybody was super excited to be there.”
Durkee also praised the attitude of the girls team, which improved to 10-0 with that victory.
“They have an energy about them and a certain swagger in not an arrogant way,” he explained. “They know who they are. They’re confident. They play loose. They have fun that they enjoy being around one another.”
There are still a few decals left to get up in the gym, but a dedication ceremony has been scheduled for this Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
“Following that, at 3:30 p.m., we have an open house here at the school,” he revealed. “All the doors will be open and you know, everybody, you get a chance to see the whole building. If they’d like that, everything will be open for people to see. We’re really excited about it.”
The next time a team will be playing on that new court is this Friday when the girls host Winnebago Lutheran Academy at 7:30 p.m.
