
Leonard Carl Maedke, age 84, of Manitowoc, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 16, 2025, at Harbor View Assisted Living in Manitowoc.
Len was born on June 2, 1940, in Manitowoc to the late Wilford and Verona (Rankin) Maedke. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1958. On August 8, 1959, Len married MaryAnn Carle in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2019. Len worked as a pattern maker at Manitowoc Engineering for the majority of his career and other various pattern shops. He was a professional tinkerer, always making things better than where they started. Len also loved shooting sporting clays, hunting pheasants with his many shorthairs over the years, deer hunting in Cornucopia, WI, since 1958, and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. He put on many miles with his loving wife MaryAnn, always taking the scenic way and enjoying the backroads of Wisconsin and the UP. Len always enjoyed the annual family vacation in Minocqua where his duties involved cleaning the hundreds of fish caught by his family. He also enjoyed many out of state hunting trips, including to Colorado, Iowa, and South Dakota in search of elk and pheasants.
Survivors include Len’s three sons: Craig (Debbie) Maedke, Doug (Sandra) Maedke, and Brian (Patti) Maedke, all of Manitowoc; seven grandchildren: Ranson (Brittany), Brianna (Braden), Jenna (Kyle), Logan (Jen), Derek (Caitlyn), Max, and Eli (Brynn); five great grandchildren: Wesson, Weylyn, Wren, Warrick, Vivienne; a close niece: Connie (Michael) Popp-Miller; sister-in-law: Beverly Maedke. Other relatives and friends also survive. Len was preceded in death by his parents: Wilford and Verona Maedke; his wife: MaryAnn Maedke; brother: Donald Maedke; sister: Shirley Owen; and grandson: Carl Maedke.
Cremation has occurred at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory. A private family service will be held. Len will be laid to rest next to MaryAnn at Evergreen Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com.
