Joy Patricia (Blahnik) Paulson (1947—2025) passed away peacefully in her home on January 22, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, to Eleanor and Gilbert Blahnik, Joy’s warmth and kindness touched all who knew her. In 1970, Joy married her beloved husband, Thomas Paulson, at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. Joy was a cherished mother to Brian Paulson (and his wife, Shannon) of Black Creek, Matthew Paulson of New York, and Nicholas Paulson of Manitowoc. She was also a devoted grandmother to Devon, Madeline, William, and John Thomas Paulson.
Joy joined the Holy Family convent before graduating from Lincoln High School in 1965. She went on to earn a degree in Dental Hygiene from Loyola University College of Dentistry, graduating in 1971. Joy worked alongside her husband in their dental practice until their retirement in 2015. Throughout her professional life, she took great pride in serving others, but it was her family that brought her the most fulfillment.
An avid lifelong learner, Joy had great passion for art, music, food, and culture. Her curiosity was infectious and a constant source of inspiration. Joy’s name said it all—she was a joy to others and a joy to be around. Her presence made you feel loved and valued, and her altruism and creativity enriched the lives of everyone she encountered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Gilbert Blahnik; her Aunt Mary Ciche; her granddaughter Isabel May Paulson; and her nephew Benjamin Pittner.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in her memory to St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Manitowoc.
A celebration of life will take place on June 14, 2025. For more information, please contact the family.
