The final home game of Manitowoc United’s first varsity hockey season did not go the way the local team would have liked.
United fell to Oshkosh 6-3 Saturday night. United started the scoring with David Klein pounding home a loose puck in front of the Hawks’ net, but Oshkosh responded quickly.
The Hawks netted four unanswered goals into the second period. Myles DeKok took matters into his own hands, going end to end to get United back to within 2, and added another three minutes later.
The Hawks brought the one-goal lead into the final frame, and United had several chances to knot it up, but Oshkosh would score two quick goals to end the comeback attempt and secure the win.
DeKok also helped with the first goal, while Jacob Wallander assisted DeKok’s first goal.
Jackson Kadow would record 14 saves for United before Fred Busse would sub in and make 20 saves.
United has one more regular season game on the calendar, an away game against Shawano on February 8th.
